From Financial Abuse to Financial Empowerment

In their presentation, Katie and Lianna will share the definitions of financial abuse, determine its significance, and explore the various dynamics associated with it. Safety planning with consideration to finances will also be disused as will guidelines for proving concrete support.

Beyond financial abuse, however, lays financial empowerment and Katie and Lianna will explore what financial empowerment is for those who have experienced abuse. Using the literature as well as their own experiences, they will share current practices and activities that best lend themselves to the development of financial empowerment. The importance of supporting the acquisition of financial literacy skills, enhancing confidence and building financial capacity will be highlighted.
