Mask You Live In Screening & Panel Discussion
April 1, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm UTC+7
FreeIn partnership with the City of Edmonton’s Men’s Support Services, Men Edmonton (ME) invites you to the exclusive screening of The Mask You Live In on April 1st, 2017, 4pm at the Garneau Theatre. The documentary screening will be followed by a panel discussion and light refreshments.
The Mask You Live In, is a documentary following the lives of young men as they negotiate the strict expectations of manhood. These expectations include the rejection of emotions and genuine relationships, which correlate to men’s higher rates of mental illness, suicide and violent crime. The Mask You Live In ultimately demonstrates the need to raise a healthier generation of boys and young men, and how this could be achieved.
The screening will lead to an engaging panel discussion of diverse, local leaders, focusing on how gendered expectations constrain and contour the lives of boys and men. The panel discussion will be moderated by Ryan Jesperson, 630 CHED host and active philanthropist. The panelists come with a range of backgrounds, experiences, and knowledge, as well as passion for change. Being both vulnerable and open, panelists will speak about their experiences negotiating masculinity in their own lives, the broader social forces shaping masculinity, and how they hope to transform it.
The panel will be followed by a reception, and the chance to network with other caring professionals and strong leaders in Edmonton.
