$250DECSA’s Speak Project will take place on September 13 and 14, 2018.
- Do you have the training, skills, and perspective to support women who are experiencing abuse from a partner?
- Do you want to learn more about harm-reduction, low-barrier approaches to support women with experiences of abuse?
- Do you want a solid framework and complete set of exercises to effectively support women impacted by gender-based violence?
If this sounds like you, the Speak Project is the best next step of your journey toward helping to provide sustainable services and women-centred support.
In partnership with Edmonton’s Food Bank, DECSA is excited to present the Speak Project “When Love Hurts” workshop for anyone who is ready to provide greater support to women facing abuse in their intimate relationships.
About the Workshop
The Speak Project offers a two-day, train-the-trainer workshop designed to prepare you for leading your own support group for women dealing with partner abuse. You’ll work with Jill Cory and Karen McAndless-Davis, co-authors of When Love Hurts: A Woman’s Guide to Understanding Abuse in Relationships. These highly-experienced facilitators bring decades of knowledge, as well as their unique approach to building supportive services for women. Your registration fee covers the materials you’ll receive, the knowledge you’ll gain, and catered lunch for both days of the event. Upon completing the workshop, you’ll receive a certificate to represent your achievement. The training will be from 8:30am – 4:00pm.
Who Should Attend
Whether you support women individually or in a group setting, this workshop is for you. We invite counsellors, shelter workers, community leaders, mental health/addiction workers, and any other professionals who are in a position to assist and advocate for women. Wherever and whomever you serve, we know this training will enhance your existing skills and give you the fresh perspective you’ve been looking for.
The Speak Project is funded by Alberta Status of Women, and supported by KARE Victim Services, Edmonton Institution for Women Correctional Services of Canada and Wings of Providence.
