Purpose
The overall purpose of the Public Education Awareness Raising (PEAR) Advisory Committee is to guide the goals of the PEAR Vision and Mission.
Vision
Raise the profile of family violence as a community issue that affects us all. We will do this through coordinated public education and awareness-raising campaigns. We will educate service providers and the public about this issue in hopes of ending family violence.
Mission
PEAR will support the creation of a collaborative, coordinated, diverse, community response to family violence education and awareness-raising, strengthening our community’s capacity to take action against family violence.
Objectives
Build the service provider and the public’s capacities for responding to and preventing family violence.
- Develop and deliver opportunities for program development that better serve the needs of the public. What are the training needs, who can provide the training, and how can PEAR connect people who need training with experts.
- Coordinate and support populations and messaging for a coordinated public awareness strategy. What messages need to be shared, who needs to hear it, who can help distribute, and how can PEAR coordinate awareness campaigns.
Activities
Develop and promote public education and awareness-raising training, trainers and public awareness campaigns for greater community awareness of the importance of family violence prevention and services for those impacted by family violence.
Education
Coordinate and organize family violence training to outside agencies and stakeholders and deliver educational opportunities for Edmonton and area stakeholders.
Awareness Raising
Assist with the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including but not limited to: brochures, annual reports, the CIAFV interactive service map, and e-newsletters. Lead, coordinate and participate in public awareness initiatives.
