Our first presenter of the fall was Allison Downey-Damato, who is the Assistant Chief Crown in charge of Family Violence prosecutions in Edmonton. Allison talked about her new role as Family Violence Project Coordinator for the Department of Justice and Solicitor General.
Allison’s discussion included reviewing the ministry’s and Government of Alberta’s initiatives and recommendations in relation to domestic violence victims. This included a discussion about examining policy, legislative frameworks, and operational matters.
The city of Edmonton’s Heather Morrison and Zanette Frost provided a brief update on city council’s gender-based violence initiative.
