From Wendy Aujla:
Friends, Family, and Supporters:
November 1st marks the 30th Anniversary of Family Violence Prevention Month in Alberta and today, I am seeking your support with a 30-day campaign to collect local gift cards for stores. With your generosity and support, I hope to collect at least 200 gift cards for the 4th Annual Support WIN House campaign. A gift card helps families rebuild their lives during and after leaving WIN House’s programs and services such as the shelters. The campaign is unique and supports many families in various ways (e.g. meeting basic needs like food, shelter, and clothing). Rather than donating actual food or household items, I ask that you donate gift cards from local stores. This provides families the freedom to select food based on their dietary needs, the opportunity to shop for basic necessities, and the empowerment to purchase their own household items (e.g. a mattress to sleep on). The fact is when families are affected by abuse a gift card in any amount goes far. Outreach workers provide emotional and practical support, with clients both in the shelter and after departure.
If you are on social media, follow me at @waujla on Twitter during November, using the #30daystoWIN, #gclocal, and #icanact hashtags. Also feel free to take a selfie with the gift card you plan to donate before dropping it off.
The deadline is November 30, 2016. Tax receipts can be issued if the gift card is accompanied with a receipt outlining the cost. If you require a tax receipt, I need your contact information (Full name, address, and phone number) as well for it to be issued by the end of January 2016.
Your contribution will be life changing for the families. Thank you for valuing this commitment and considering this request.
